Many customers come in with bushing drawings and immediately ask, "Should it be carburized or nitrided?" In fact, there is no standard answer to this question-it depends on the operating conditions. Carburizing can produce a very deep case and withstand heavy impact, but heat treatment distortion is significant. Nitriding operates at low temperature with almost no distortion, the surface can be ground very smooth, and it resists high temperature and galling-making it ideal for parts requiring high precision that are sensitive to heat treatment. When we make a Nitrided ground bushing, more often than not we first help the customer make the right choice before starting machining.
In terms of process, we use nitriding steels such as 38CrMoAl and 42CrMo, nitrided at around 500°C low temperature. Surface hardness easily reaches above HV800. The compound layer plus diffusion layer together provide wear resistance, anti-galling, and corrosion resistance, with distortion negligible enough to ignore. After nitriding, high-rigidity internal/external cylindrical grinders perform finish grinding, with dimensional tolerances stabilized at ±0.005mm, roundness and cylindricity within 0.003mm, and surface ground to below Ra0.4μm. The mating surface is mirror-grade-a Nitrided ground bushing fits right the first time, no rework needed. Nitrided ground bushings are commonly used for precision valve spool bushings, hydraulic components, and high-speed bearing bushings-places requiring high precision. Every piece undergoes full inspection before shipping. Hardness gradient and case depth reports can be provided, and third-party inspection is accepted.
