How to Determine if Car Parts Need Replacement?

The core criteria for determining whether car parts need replacement are fivefold: abnormal behavior, degree of wear, service life, manufacturer's recommendations, and professional inspection. Combining this with your driving experience and vehicle condition can help identify problems earlier, preventing minor issues from escalating into major repairs.

Check for Abnormal Behaviors
Abnormal signals that occur during vehicle operation are the most direct warnings:

Unusual Noises:A "ticking" sound in the engine compartment may indicate a loose timing belt; a "clunking" sound from the chassis may indicate damaged suspension components;

Vibration: Steering wheel vibration at high speeds may indicate tire imbalance or wheel deformation;

Performance Degradation: Weak acceleration and increased fuel consumption may indicate worn spark plugs or a clogged catalytic converter;

Instrument Warnings: A lit battery light indicates an abnormal charging problem; lit brake lights indicate a braking system problem.

Check the Wear and Tear of Key Components Regularly checking the physical condition of easily worn parts is crucial for preventing malfunctions:

Brake Pads: Replace if the thickness is less than 3mm; replace immediately if less than 2mm, otherwise the brake discs will be damaged.

Tires: Replace tires when the tread wears down to the "safety bump" (usually 1.6mm). Also check for bulges and cracks.

Spark Plugs: Replace ordinary nickel alloy plugs every 40,000 kilometers; platinum/iridium plugs can last 60,000-100,000 kilometers.

Windshield Wipers: Skidding, water streaks, or unusual noises indicate aging rubber blades, affecting visibility in rainy weather.

Reference Mileage and Time Cycles Even if not broken, some parts have reached the end of their lifespan and must be replaced preventively:

Engine Oil & Oil Filter: Mineral oil 5000km, semi-synthetic 8000km, fully synthetic 10000km;

Air Filter: 1 year or 20,000km, earlier in dusty environments;

Cabin Air Filter: 1 year or 15,000km, recommended before pollen season;

Tire Timing Belt: Generally mandatory replacement at 80,000km, otherwise breakage may lead to engine failure;

Battery: Lifespan 3-5 years, even if it can still start, an aging battery is prone to failure at low temperatures;

Tires: Even with deep treads, replacement is recommended after 6 years, as the rubber will naturally age and crack.
