We manufacture tapered connecting flanges, also known as taper sleeve flanges or shrink flanges. These components provide a keyless connection between a shaft and a flange.

The principle is straightforward: the flange's inner taper mates with a shaft featuring a matching outer taper. The resulting contact pressure and friction enable reliable transmission of high torque.

Key advantages include easy assembly and disassembly, excellent alignment, and no damage to the shaft surface. This solution is ideal for high-speed spindles, fan impellers, and large pumps that require frequent maintenance or high dynamic balance.

 

Taper Fit: Over 85% Contact for Torque Transfer

 

The quality of the taper fit is critical to performance. We use standard taper ratios such as 1:10, 1:15, or 1:20. The contact area of the taper surface is verified using bluing inspection, ensuring a contact ratio of over 85%.

The taper surface roughness (Ra) is controlled below 0.4 μm through superfinishing. This creates a uniform and stable interference fit between the flange and the shaft.

Compared with the line contact of keyed connections, this full surface contact allows for higher torque transmission and improved torsional rigidity.

Strong Materials for Repeated Use

 

We use high-strength alloy steel such as 42CrMo for the flange body. Quenching and tempering are applied to achieve a core hardness of HRC 30–35, ensuring both strength and toughness.

The critical inner taper surface is then nitrided. This process provides high surface hardness (≥HV700) and introduces a compressive residual stress layer, significantly improving resistance to fretting wear and fatigue.

Even with frequent assembly and disassembly, the connection remains stable and reliable.

 

Hydraulic Assembly and Dynamic Balance for Ease of Use

 

Upon request, we can machine standard hydraulic oil injection and release channels into the flange. This enables fast and safe installation and removal.

Before delivery, each tapered connecting flange undergoes high-precision dynamic balancing as a complete unit. We can achieve a balance grade of G2.5 or higher, ensuring smooth operation even at high rotational speeds ranging from thousands to tens of thousands of RPM.
